Keynote - A Woman’s Influence – Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter and La Fonda on the Plaza

Barbara founded Barbara Felix Architecture + Design in 1998 in Santa Fe. Renamed Woven Architecture in 2021, she is honored to be celebrating twenty-six years of award-winning architectural and design entrepreneurship in New Mexico. She has completed multiple award-winning architecture and interior design projects throughout the state including tribal, government, commercial, and residential projects. She has a passion for the built environment, sustainable design, and the mix of cultures that makes New Mexico unique. She is committed to women’s rights, improving education, and protecting the environment, and is actively involved in the politics that impact all three. She was the 2017 president of the American Institute of Architects – New Mexico state chapter (and currently the state director of legislative activities), a past board member and chair of the Laguna Housing Development and Management Enterprise for the Pueblo of Laguna, and a past board member of the Historic Santa Fe Foundation. Originally from Michigan, she worked in Detroit, Richmond, and Chicago prior to moving to New Mexico, where she has lived for nearly thirty-years.
Felix has worked with La Fonda on the Plaza since 2007 and is credited with the renovation of nearly all parts of the hotel (interiors and architecture), including the restaurant, guestrooms, lobby, bar, and building exterior.
