Ebola, Lassa Fever, Marburg, Avion Flu? Do we have a plan? Minnesota is lucky to have one of 13 Special Pathogens laboratories funded by the Department of Defense. These laboratories are responsible for testing patients confirmed to have a high consequence infectious disease. This laboratory partners with the Minnesota Department of Health to ensure patients suspected of having one of these terrifying diseases are handled properly from the moment they step into the hospital to the moment they are discharged from the Special Pathogens Unit at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. This talk will run through what a high consequence infectious disease is, what we do in our Special Pathogens unit and what Minnesota's plan is to identify and prevent the spread of these public health disasters.
