Participant Guide
In this session, participants will experience a full STEM and engineering design progression, from picture book to working AI model, all connected through insects. The session opens with an interactive picture book experience and engineering challenge that builds science vocabulary and engineering thinking. Participants then train a real machine learning model using Google Teachable Machine, photographing training data, labeling categories, and testing their AI. When the model makes mistakes, participants debug, analyze errors, and improve their data, experiencing the full engineering design cycle: define, build, test, analyze, iterate. Presenters share real student work and authentic quotes from a National competition-recognized implementation, plus practical strategies for connecting AI and engineering design to existing K-5 curriculum.
