Using social media to put the “community” into Community Foundations
9:15 AM - 10:15 AM Fri
Sarah Thomas is Vice President of Communications at the York County Community Foundation, where she leads strategic communications, marketing, public relations, and organizational culture initiatives. With more than 25 years of experience in the communications industry, she has developed and executed communications and social media strategies for large corporations, small businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and major events. For the past decade, Sarah has focused her work within the community foundation field, helping translate complex philanthropic and community leadership initiatives into stories that are accessible, engaging, and relevant to the public. She has led communications strategies for community impact initiatives, regional collaborations, nonprofit capacity-building efforts, and large-scale community events, with a particular passion for using social media to build trust, strengthen relationships, and invite meaningful community participation. Sarah enjoys sharing practical, real-world communications strategies that organizations can implement regardless of team size or budget. Fun fact: Earlier in her career, Sarah managed social media for 24 separate events, overseeing five social media channels for each event—a total of 120 social media accounts at a time! It taught her a lot about audience engagement, content planning, and the value of a good scheduling tool.
