AWR-140: Intro to Radiological/Nuclear WMD Operations

Tennessee Homeland Security District 2 will host AWR-140 Introduction to Radiological/Nuclear WMD Operations provided by CTOS Center for Radiological/Nuclear Training on April 22, 2024 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. This course will take place at Jubilee Banquet Facility, 6700 Jubilee Center Way, Knoxville, TN 37912.

AWR-140 provides First Responders and others in Response or Support mission roles with and introduction to radiological/nuclear WMD operations. This course aligns with the Awareness level and Operations level competencies of NFPA 472 "Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents and provides fundamental knowledge in threat or incident recognition, protective measures, notification, and incident area management.

Course Objectives:

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define the fundamentals of radiation, radioactive material, ionization,and contamination.
  • Describe the indicators, signs and symptoms of exposure to radiation.
  • Recognize the presence of radiological material from radiological postings (colors and symbols), container shapes/types, or unusual signs that may indicate the threat of a radiological incident and make appropriate notifications for additional agencies and resources that may be needed.
  • Describe the radiological/nuclear WMD threat and its potential impact on the community.
